Guildford College

Guildford College is the largest provider of further and higher education in Surrey, and is operated by Activate Learning.

Qualifications range from foundation to degree level, in a wide range of subjects. Just over a third of students study full-time courses, with the majority of those aged between 16 and 18 years old.

Most part-time students are adults. The college also works closely with local employers to provide relevant and tailored training for their employees.

Supported Learning

The college is also committed to widening participation and supporting learners with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including chronic fatigue syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders such as Asperger Syndrome, ADHD, mobility impairments, visual impairments, speech impairments, long term medical conditions, mental health difficulties and more.

Learners have access to individual support and specialist help where needed (one-to-one support, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists).

They provide:

  • advice and information on disability support and reasonable adjustments at the college
  • individual support plans
  • access arrangements in exams
  • specialist equipment
  • support workers e.g. note-takers, communication support workers for deaf students, mentors
  • liaison with academic department staff
  • assistance with diagnostic and needs assessment and Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) applications

SEND courses at Guildford College are for learners aged 16-25 year olds, and may require an EHCP.
