New (Interim) Director of Education and Lifelong Learning

Following a robust interview process and decision by a committee of Councillors, Dr Julia Katherine has been appointed as the Interim Director for Education and Lifelong Learning (ELL). Julia formally started in post on 2 January 2024, and joins the Children, Families and Lifelong Learning Leadership Team.

Dr Julia Katherine's appointment follows former Director for Education and Lifelong Learning Liz Mills' recent move to a new position within the Council, as the Strategic Director for Customer Service Transformation. This is initially for a period of 18 months from January 2024.

You may already know Julia as the Assistant Director for Inclusion and Additional Needs in the North East. Julia joined Surrey in 2021, bringing with her over 20 years' experience in senior leadership positions in both unitary and large county authorities.

Julia is working at pace with recruitment for her interim replacement to cover Inclusion and Additional Needs leadership in the North East and has put temporary arrangements in place for this school term. An update on a longer-term interim replacement will be provided soon.
