- Step 6 - building work completed
Congratulations, the major home adaptations to your home are now complete. It is crucial to ensure the building work meets your child/young person's needs. An inspection of the completed work will happen with the following people:
- Your Occupational Therapist (OT)
- Housing Improvement Agency (HIA)
- Surveyor/architect
- District/Borough (D/B) Council Grants Team.
The inspection is to agree that all work is complete and meets your child's/young person's needs. Any building work snags will be identified during the inspection visit, along with who will rectify them. Clearance of all snags enables final funding payments.
Equipment warranty
The building work may have included installation of specialist equipment. The equipment warranty covers any faults with fixed equipment inside the property.
Who to contact
- Within warranty - contact the equipment manufacturers.
- Outside warranty - Specialist equipment is usually installed as part of the major home adaptations, for example stair lifts, through floor lifts and step lifts. The equipment becomes the responsibility of the homeowner beyond the warranty period. Tenants should report any repairs/faults to their landlord. If the landlord cannot assist with this, then contact the OT.
Millbrook Healthcare group equipment will include a sticker with their contact details on it. If this equipment breaks down, please contact them directly. Their emergency line is available 24/7. Please contact Millbrook for any other servicing or warranty queries.

Please note, another DFG application cannot occur within one year of the first DFG approved work. If your child/young person's needs change within this time, please contact the OT.
