North West Surrey Short Stay School

We are a Pupil Referral Unit serving Woking, Runnymead and Surrey Heath for learners, aged 11-16, who have experienced difficultly in maintaining a place in mainstream education.

We provide a range of programmes that are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. In partnership with PIXL, KS3 students can follow 'The Edge' Programme, where learners develop the key attributes of Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Independence and Communication; this is in addition to core subjects of Maths, English, Art and PE. At KS4, the student's study for GCSE Maths, English, Science, History and Art with additional lessons in PE and PSHE.

At NWSSSS, we enable the students to understand their barriers to learning and assist them to reintegrate back into a suitable education setting.

Oak Tree Cafe

The cafe runs on Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm.

A free friendly and relaxed place where adults who want to improve their emotional wellbeing can support and encourage one another. This group is for those who struggle with mental health issues who would benefit from company and a safe environment. Whilst not offering any direct counselling or medical advice/support, they aim to provide a relaxed and enjoyable place to come and "just be". A chance to chat, have some cake, play a game, try a craft activity or just to sit and chill. Freedom to engage in conversation or not. Freedom to participate in activities or not.

Oasis Therapy Suite

The Oasis Therapy Suite has a hydrotherapy pool with sensory lights and a music and DVD system for people who have learning disabilities and are registered with a Surrey GP.

Hydrotherapy can be used to help treat a range of conditions including neurological, arthritic and musculoskeletal disorders and is often used after joint replacement surgery. Benefits include improved mobility, balance and co-ordination, strengthened muscles and reduced swelling. Hydrotherapy also promotes relaxation, enhances wellbeing and is an effective method of pain relief.

Individuals are referred for hydrotherapy following specialist physiotherapy assessment by a physiotherapist based within the Surrey community teams for people with learning disabilities.

Occupational Therapy Service – Children and Family Health Surrey

The NHS Occupational Therapy Service enables children to participate in daily life to improve their health and wellbeing. Daily life is made up of many activities (or occupations).

Occupations for children may include self-care (getting ready to go out, eating a meal, using the toilet), being productive (going to nursery or school), and leisure (playing with toys or doing hobbies).

Support is offered to children and young people up to 19 years old who live in Surrey and are experiencing challenges with occupations and participation. Occupational therapists have specialist skills to help children and young people experiencing challenges in life situations due to a range of conditions/diagnoses.

They have a telephone helpline which puts you in direct contact with an Occupational Therapist, which is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

Options The Old Vicarage

The Old Vicarage is a residential home for adults aged 18+ with an Autism Spectrum Condition who may also have a learning disability or require similar support. The home is situated in a quiet residential road. It has a large garden and is located close to Uxbridge town centre, two minutes' walk from a community centre and seven minutes' walk from the local supermarket. It has a homely environment where everyone is supported to work towards personal independence, gain life skills and live a fulfilling life.

We provide an experienced and dedicated team, available 24 hours a day and a person-centred approach so the people we support can contribute to their personal development plan by organising their own daily living within the local community including accessing voluntary or paid work placements, further education and learning opportunities as well as social and leisure activities.
