Guildford Bike Project

The project takes in donations of unwanted bicycles from the general public and organisations. We refurbish them while providing essential work experience and train volunteers, young people and Jobseekers. The bikes are then sold to members of the public at an affordable price to help sustain the project.

Guildford College

Guildford College is the largest provider of further and higher education in Surrey, and is operated by Activate Learning.

Qualifications range from foundation to degree level, in a wide range of subjects. Just over a third of students study full-time courses, with the majority of those aged between 16 and 18 years old.

Most part-time students are adults. The college also works closely with local employers to provide relevant and tailored training for their employees.

Supported Learning

The college is also committed to widening participation and supporting learners with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including chronic fatigue syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders such as Asperger Syndrome, ADHD, mobility impairments, visual impairments, speech impairments, long term medical conditions, mental health difficulties and more.

Learners have access to individual support and specialist help where needed (one-to-one support, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists).

They provide:

  • advice and information on disability support and reasonable adjustments at the college
  • individual support plans
  • access arrangements in exams
  • specialist equipment
  • support workers e.g. note-takers, communication support workers for deaf students, mentors
  • liaison with academic department staff
  • assistance with diagnostic and needs assessment and Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) applications

SEND courses at Guildford College are for learners aged 16-25 year olds, and may require an EHCP.

Guildford Jobcentre Plus

Jobcentre Plus is a government-funded employment agency whose aim is to help people of working age and claiming benefits to find employment. Jobcentre Plus provides resources to find work such as Jobpoints (touch-screen computer terminals), Jobseeker Direct (telephone service) and the Jobcentre Plus website. It also offers information about training opportunities, as well as administering claims for benefits such as Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, and Jobseeker's Allowance.

Guildford Model Engineering Society

The Guildford Model Engineering Society aims to encourage, develop, and provide facilities for the hobby of model engineering.

They offer regular open days throughout the year, which families are welcome to attend. During open days, members of the public can take train rides on both ground-level and raised-track miniature railways.

The Society also welcomes new members. If you are interested in joining the Society, please approach any of the members at one of their public events or come along for a chat on a Thursday morning meeting or contact the Society by post or e-mail.

This group is for young carer's who attend King’s College in Guildford supporting them with free drama sessions.
