North Surrey Afasic

AFASIC - North Surrey is a parent led, local self-funding branch of the charity AFASIC. It is run by a committee of volunteers who are mostly parents of children with speech and language impairments.

The group run 3 fortnightly clubs in Ashtead for children and young people who struggle with language and making friends. They also run activity weeks during the summer holidays.

Cygnet in Surrey

Cygnet in Surrey, is a support programme for parents and carers of children and young people, aged 5-18, who are autistic or awaiting an autism diagnosis. Attending a Cygnet autism support programme gives parents and carers an opportunity to develop their understanding of autism and consider ways to support their child. It also provides the opportunity to meet other people in a similar position and hear about their experiences in an informal but supportive atmosphere.

Surrey’s Cygnet offer is coordinated through the Autism Outreach team, based at Freemantles school, but its team of trainers are made up from professionals working across Surrey in education, health and charity organisations.

Action for Carers Surrey - Support Groups and Events

We have support groups across Surrey. They are friendly, informal get-togethers, where you can chat to others about your caring role and give each other support.

Groups and events are both face to face and online using zoom. Face to face events take place in a wide range of locations across Surrey. Specific groups include Parent Carer Support, Eating Disorders, Mental Health, Autism and Learning Disabilities. Events include Mindfulness, Yoga and Tai Chai.

Little Troopers is a charity that solely supports children with a parent serving in the regular or reserve British Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force. Their support comes in various forms but predominately provides tangible resources to help children feel included and in control of their emotions when they have a parent serving away from the family home. They also have some recognition schemes and events to promote reconnection of the family unit.
