Playrangers - Bellfields Autumn Term Session

Dates available in September, October and November from 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Playrangers is an exciting project which encourages children to play outdoors. Free sessions are held after school in six locations around Guildford. All children are welcome to join.

The Playrangers are qualified and experienced play workers. They run play sessions based on using the natural environment as well as child-led play.

On this FREE online five-week course (2-hour sessions), you will work with the tutor and other parents and carers to learn about primary education in England and how to support your children’s learning. If you are new to the UK or went to school in another country and are a parent/carer of a child aged 4-11, this course will help you understand how the school system works in England and how to help your child with English.

Family Learning - What is Happening in School - Grammar for ESOL Parents (Y1 and 2)

Wednesday 18th September 2024

On this FREE online 1+2-week course (2-hour sessions), you will work with the tutor and other parents and carers to understand school education and how English is taught in school. If your child is aged 5-7 years and you speak English as an additional language (EAL) this course is for you. You will:

  • find out about what your child learns about English grammar in Key Stage 1
  • learn about word-level grammar: What are parts of speech? How can we make new words? What are synonyms and antonyms?
  • learn about and practise sentence-level grammar: types of sentences according to function
  • improve your own English skills
  • develop digital skills by using Zoom and Google Classroom

This course is a FREE online course for parents and carers whose children (8-18) are being violent and/or aggressive at home. It will delve into the possible causes of violent and aggressive behaviour in children, including the myths around this hidden subject. There will be discussion around the child’s understanding of rights and responsibilities and the balance of power in the family. It will explore the parent role and styles, and review strategies that can help

parents to instigate a calmer home environment.

Movement and Mindfulness Course

Running every Friday starting on Friday 20th September to Friday 13th December from 11am - 12:30pm

A free 12-week physical activity course for adults experiencing mental health problems. Suitable for those who would like to be more active but who find the idea of exercise daunting. Low impact sessions combining activities to help you strengthen, stretch, and relax followed by refreshments.

Running over the course of 12 weeks, excluding the 1st of November due to half term. This course is provided free of charge, thanks to funding from Voluntary Action South West Surrey.

Expert Parent Workshop (Cranleigh)

Monday 23rd September from 9:30am - 2:15pm

Join the free workshop and learn how to get the best outcomes for your child. The Expert Parent Programme is unique in that it maps out the current health system specifically to the needs of children and young people with special needs or disabilities (diagnosed or undiagnosed). The 10-week Nurturing Programme

Starting Monday 23rd September to Monday 2nd December from 7:30pm - 9:30pm

The nurturing programme helps deal with challenges so that you can have a calmer, happier life. This programme will look at a range of different topics.

There are ten 2-hour sessions with a tea and coffee break. You will need to attend all ten sessions as they fit together like a puzzle (over the course of 10 weeks)

Cost is £30 per person or £50 per couple.
